Competition for Slovene Primary Schools

In cooperation with the Ljubljana Balassi Institute, the Beletrina publishing house organizes a competition for Slovene primary schools – “The flag of the Land of Imagination”
The goal of the competition is to deepen the feel for friendship and solidarity, to develop the imagination and of course to win the main prize – a two day trip to Budapest. The libraries of the best ten schools will also receive books from the Beletrina publishing house.

In September and October, on a first come first served basis, stand-up comedian Lucija Ćirović will visit ten schools and introduce the book by Ferenc Molnár to the pupils.

The competition is running until 26th October. The closing ceremony will take place at the Slovene Book Fair, where along with a rich accompanying programme, the class winning the first prize will be announced. It should be mentioned that this year’s book fair is strongly shaped by Hungarian literature as Hungary is the guest of honour in 2018.

The rules of the competition are simple:

1. Read the book “The Paul Street Boys” and discuss it at school.

2. Make a flag of the Land of Imagination (all materials can be used for the flag, but it should be no larger than 2 X 2 m), take a photo of it and send it to This email address is being protected from spambots. 3. A special jury, consisting of the representatives of the Balassi Institute and the Beletrina publishing house will choose the most attractive flags, and they will be exhibited at the Slovene Book Fair.

The class with the winning flag will receive the main prize of the competition – a two day trip to Budapest.
